Ruth's codename in the Mossad is Sabra. It is a term used to describe a Jew born in Israeli territory. The word "sabra" is Arabic and Hebrew. The allusion is to a tenacious, thorny desert plant with a thick hide that conceals a sweet, softer interior, suggesting that even though the Israeli Sabra are rough and masculine on the outside, they are delicate and sensitive on the inside. In the United States, this cactus variety is known as the Prickly Pear. This description describes Ruth perfectly and hence was given to her as her code name. She is tenacious in the defense of her country. And yet, around young children, she melts. The children of Israel are its hope and its future. It is not uncommon to find her playing with the children of the Mossad in her Kibbitz.

Ruth Bat-Seraph was born in Jerusalem to Daniel and Abigail Yuirpi. Her parents owned an antique shop in Jerusalem and cataloged antiquities for the university of
Jerusalem. She grew up in a rather private, quiet setting for her first eleven years.
Her powers manifested at the age of eleven and she and her parents were snatched up by the Mossad and placed in a special Kibbutz where she was trained from that point on by the Mossad to be their first mutant agent, created to serve Israel. All her education was private and one on one. She was put into their physical training program at the age of twelve and trained in the Martial Arts form of 'Krav Maga' from that time forward. She excelled beyond their expectations and the special Kidon unit which trained the elite assassins for the Moussad recruited her into their unit when she reached the age of eighteen.
Her mutation has enhanced all her fighting skills. Sabra is fully trained in all the armed and unarmed combat skills that the Moussad gives their agents. This training also
includes investigative skills and training in anti-terrorist techniques.
She is specifically trained in the 'Krav Maga' A system developed specifically for the Mossad. It combines the elements of boxing and wrestling into a form of street fighting. 'Krav Maga' has a philosophy that emphasizes threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and focuses on aggressive application.

By the time Ruth finished all the training they put her through, she became classified as one of the most sophisticated, deadly and lawful killers in the world and was fully licensed to assassinate in the name of Israel.
Once she had completed her training, her new classification was as a 'Katsa Jumper'. A Katsa Jumper is defined as a Field Agent that moves from country to country. This classification allowed her and the other three members of the team to move freely through foreign countries and track those she was assigned to kill.
During her initial training in the Kidon unit, she was placed into the Israeli police force in Jerusalem for training in investigative and anti-terrorists field techniques. During this time, she fell in love with one of her fellow officers and they had a child named Jakob. After her training was completed, her husband was and son were targeted by by Palestinian terrorists. In the fight, their one year old son Jakob, was brutally murdered. Ruth was in the field at the time and by the time she got to where her family was it was to late. Her commander in the Kidon unit ordered her to stand down because she was to close to the situation and it could compromise her emotions and her cover.
She was ordered to come in, but instead went after the five Palestinian terrorists and eliminated them one by one. She came in on her own after killing the last one and submitted herself for punishment. To her surprise, she was not disciplined or punished. Instead, her commander informed her that they were sending her to the United States. Her orders were to go undercover in a group known as the X-Men. She was then to locate a group known as 'The Brotherhood' and do an assessment of this group as whether they were a threat to Israel.
To create a seperate identity from her Mossad connection, she changed her name from 'Sabra' to 'Seraph.' The meaning fit her perfectly for Seraph means; Purifier, Cleanser, Destroyer.

The sirens were deafening as Ruth stepped out of the police car in western Jerusalem. She had been put there undercover to learn about Police techniques as part of her Moussad training. Now a bomb had gone off and hit a busload of Israeli Children. The bus lay crushed under a wall that had collapsed and the screams of the children could be heard even above the sirens. Police frantically tried to get to the children but to no avail.
Their was no question as to what had to be done. Ruth didn't hesitate and moved quickly towards the pinned bus. No one really noticed her at first. She was just another Israeli officer responding,. as she reached under a piece of cement and twisted steel. But a moment later they all noticed as the piece of the wall laying on the bus suddenly lifted and went over the other direction away from the bus. Several more pieces of concrete and twisted steel went flying on top of the other rubble and Ruth jumped up on the bus. She yelled to the kids to get back, reached through the shattered windows and pulled the crushed in side of the bus out, until it literally tore away from the steel
frame of the bus.
Israeli soldiers and police began to pull kids from the bus and lifted them towards the waiting ambulances. Ruth just jumped off the bus and calmly walked through the stunned crowd back to her police car. She pulled the mike from her radio unit hooked to her chest and spoke into it in her Hebrew language.
"I assume you have seen the news. I had no choice...the children."
A voice from the other end responded in Hebrew.
"I saw and I agree. You are cleared to come in."
Ruth stepped into the police car and disappeared into the city. The car would be found at the police station, but no sign of Ruth Bat_Seraph would be found and all evidence of her existence as a police officer had vanished.

Ruth stepped into the police car and disappeared into the city. The car would be found at the police station, but no sign of Ruth Bat_Seraph would be found and all evidence of her existence as a police officer had vanished.
The next time anyone would see her would be in the States, working with the X-men
